Summer School was a Hit!

When you hear the words summer school, what comes to mind? Do you think of learning? Do you think of fun activities or extra help going into a new grade? Summer school might sound boring, having school in the summer but it can be a blast!  Summer school teachers take learning and mix some fun with it. First you get out of the house away from annoying siblings and parents. Then you get to go to school to see some old friends and staff and see new faces along with making new friends.  And the best part of all of it, is they make learning so much fun by using computers, group work and games. You are learning while at the same time having fun and making new friends. So who wouldn’t like to sign up for summer school and join all the fun! You might even learn a few things and walk away with some new friends.

Teachers like Ms. Hook said that best part of summer school is enjoying the warm, bright sunshine outdoors during recess time.

When Mrs. Dunkley said that her favorite part of summer school is teaching the upcoming fourth graders about engineering. She shows the students how fun engineering can be by hands on experiences, like programming  a robot. She also enjoys showing the upcoming fourth graders how math can be fun to learn by using games.

But if you ask Mr. Svec what his favorite part about summer school is, he would say the writing projects. He loves to teach the upcoming fifth graders the fun in writing. Mr. Svec might love teaching writing as where Mrs. Vaughn’s passion is in teaching the excitement of picking up a book and reading it. She loves to share the excitement of reading by teaching the upcoming fifth graders how to enjoy reading a book by journaling what they have read or what they have enjoyed in the book or even what they have learned.

Doesn’t  summer school sound like a blast?

Aaron Mendoza, in Ms. Harrison’s class, stated, “In 4th grade we read, Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing and we had a recess.”

You get to learn so many new and exciting things that will help you succeed in the next grade and give you an extra pep in your step.
