PTA

Dear Willamette Parent,

The Willamette Parent Teacher Association (PTA)  welcomes you to Willamette Elementary School!  Our goal is to provide support and resources to help make Willamette a great place to attend, teach and learn. We assist or run many programs/events at Willamette such as the Battle of the Books (a reading competition for 3rd-5th graders), family nights such as Science Night, School Carnival, spirit wear (Willamette t-shirts & sweatshirts), Campbell’s  Soup labels & Box Tops programs and Winter/Spring fundraisers. We also help financially with programs such as staff mini-grants, field trips, 5th grade outdoor school and additional classroom funding for teachers.

We also want to be a resource for parents and children at Willamette.  We encourage you to contact us if you have questions about our school.  We can be reached via e-mail at  MacColumbusPTA@gmail.com, or better yet, attend a meeting!

The PTA is a great way to get involved at Willamette and also a great way to know what is going on at the school. Meetings are typically the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in the school library. Childcare is provided and translators are available. We always welcome new faces and new ideas and would love to have you join us. You can participate at any level you want, even for just an hour or two here and there. We promise we are friendly and love to have new people—parents, grandparents, legal guardians—it takes all of us to help make Willamette great!

Like us on Facebook under Columbus Elementary School PTA (the one with the cougar), follow us on Instagram @MacColumbusPTA or e-mail us at MacColumbusPTA@gmail.com to get on our mailing list and to find out what activities are underway.

SMART

Will you help Willamette to Start Making A Reader Today? SMART has volunteer opportunities for you or a friend. The only requirement is the desire to make a positive difference in a child’s life. The Willamette SMART program operates Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-11 and 12-2. Both English and Spanish reading volunteers are welcome. For more information and to apply online please visit www.getSMARToregon.org. If you have any questions or want to fill out a paper application?  Leave a note in the SMART mailbox in the Willamette office. Let’s all imagine an Oregon where every child can read!

There are two ways to contribute!
AT SCHOOL: Students who bring any brand drink pouch in their lunchbox will be able to remove the straw and empty the pouch at the end of their lunch and place it in the specially marked collection bin (just like they do with their milk cartons).

FROM HOME:  collect emptied drink pouches at home – remove the straw and any remaining juice, then put in a ziplock baggie. When the baggie is full, have your child bring to the schoo land place in the same container in the cafeteria. If you have A LOT to turn in, email MacColumbusPTA@gmail.com and we can arrange a special “pick up” of the pouches.
