Dear Columbus Parent,

The Columbus Parent Teacher Association (PTA)  welcomes you to Columbus Elementary School!  Our goal is to provide support and resources to help make Columbus a great place to attend, teach and learn. We assist or run many programs/events at Columbus such as the Battle of the Books (a reading competition for 3rd-5th graders), Terracycle recycling program, family nights such as Science Night, School Carnival, spirit wear (Columbus t-shirts & sweatshirts), Campbell’s  Soup labels & Box Tops programs and Winter/Spring fundraisers. We also help financially with programs such as staff mini-grants, field trips, 5th grade outdoor school and additional classroom funding for teachers.

We also want to be a resource for parents and children at Columbus.  We encourage you to contact us if you have questions about our school.  We can be reached via e-mail at, or better yet, attend a meeting!

The PTA is a great way to get involved at Columbus and also a great way to know what is going on at the school. Meetings are typically the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the school library. Childcare is provided and translators are available. We always welcome new faces and new ideas and would love to have you join us. You can participate at any level you want, even for just an hour or two here and there. We promise we are friendly and love to have new people—parents, grandparents, legal guardians—it takes all of us to help make Columbus great!

Like us on Facebook under Columbus Elementary School PTA (the one with the cougar) or e-mail us at to get on our mailing list and to find out what activities are underway.

Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the school library. (Child care is provided)

NEW!!! Introducing Terracycle™ Drink Pouch Bridage!

TerraCycle™ is helping students and teachers earn cash for our school!  For every empty drink pouch turned in, TerraCycle will donate 2 cents to Columbus Elementary School PTA for playground improvements and other PTA-sponsored programs.  TerraCycle then upcyclesthe waste packaging material into fun new products which are sold at major retailers, stopping the products from ending up in landfills and polluting the environment. It’s a win for our school, it’s a win for the environment, and it’s a win for you!

There are two ways to contribute!
AT SCHOOL: Students who bring any brand drink pouch in their lunchbox will be able to remove the straw and empty the pouch at the end of their lunch and place it in the specially marked collection bin (just like they do with their milk cartons).

FROM HOME:  collect emptied drink pouches at home - remove the straw and any remaining juice, then put in a ziplock baggie.  When the baggie is full, have your child bring to the schoo land place in the same container in the cafeteria.  If you have A LOT to turn in, email and we can arrange a special "pick up" of the pouches.
