Congratulations!

Congratulations are in order for Mr. Erik Svec, Educator of the Year for 2016.  We are proud of Erik in many ways: service to education, excellent skills as a 5th grade teacher and talents in and out of the classroom. Erik is a leader and inspires us all here at Columbus.

"#bestteacher," exclaimed his current 5th graders.

"I don't feel I am any more deserving than anyone else.  We have success because of teamwork. Truly," said Mr. Svec this morning.

2015 Educator of the Year recipient, Reid Kimura wrote a poem in honor of Erik and since April is National Poetry Month, it seems fitting.

Thank you to Reid for presenting at yesterday's staff meeting, all the staff and parents who wrote in to nominate Erik, and a special thank you to Erik for modeling authenticity and creativity each and every day.

2016 Poem for Erik

Why do we do what we do as teachers?
We teach because we love to see all our kids grow?
It's about being purposeful, and thought provoking, constantly building strong rapport and relationships.

We balance our days like acrobats;
flexible, precise and patient.
Giving our time, without the thought of anything less.
We organize clubs, we tutor kids after school, we give our students experiences that they will remember.
We stand up for what is right for our kids and for one another.

We build genuine character in our students, while continuously holding high expectations and standards. We never stop learning. We instill a desire and love of school in our kids.

We simply make learning fun!

I am thankful I am surrounded by all of you. You teach, inspire and you make a difference.
