Earth Rise Art

After School STEAM

On December 24,1968 a unique photograph was captured by the Apollo 8 lunar mission. The three astronauts took the photo "Earthrise" as they circled around the dark side of the moon and found themselves seeing Earth as no one else had ever witnessed it. We are most accustomed to the "sunrise," but what they saw was the "Earthrise."

In celebration of the Apollo 8 mission, Evergreen Aviation Museum is holding a 50th anniversary celebration and will feature the artwork in their Apollo 8 exhibit for one year.

Columbus artists used soft chalk pastels to create their artwork. Artists will receive free admission to the Space Museum on December 15th for their participation.

Thank you Megan Whitaker for teaching our students art and space history. Do we have future astronauts here at Columbus?
