3rd Graders and Lego NXT Robotics

Posted on 01/12/2017
Every 3rd grade student in McMinnville School District (MSD) will have the opportunity to assemble and program a Lego NXT Robot due to the partnership between MSD and the McMinnville Education Foundation (MEF).

Students follow specific instructions during the assembly process and many times I find that this process alone puts students on a different learning level. They can instantly see how their reading and comprehension of the directions is working or not. I think it is important for students to have to work with their robotics team to figure out if all the pieces are correctly placed prior to moving on to the next set of directions.

Students also have to learn how to program their robot using basic coding within the NXT platform. Again, this is a huge opportunity for students to practice trial and error as they program their robot to move a wood-disc and knock down pegs...or not to knock down the pegs.

From the 3rd grade team at Columbus, THANK YOU again MEF and MSD for a wonderful opportunity!
